A Message from Steve Weisz, President and CEO of Marriott Vacations Worldwide
As the tragic events from the past week continue to unfold, first and foremost, our hearts go out to George Floyd’s family and friends for the terrible loss of their son, brother, and friend.
In the midst of such a difficult time for our country, I’m extremely saddened. When turning on the news, I’m met with images of fire, destruction and hate, but when I look closer, I see anger, frustration, fear and exhaustion. As the protests by people of all walks of life continued throughout the weekend, I was struck — and also heartened — by people from many different backgrounds, ages and color coming together to protect the unprotected. People showing up the morning after to help clean up the destruction. People struggling for answers through tears and hugs.
As a company, Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s caring culture begins and ends with the passion of our people and caring for others. It’s during these challenging times that our values are most critical — and can be seen most clearly. Diverse backgrounds and perspectives have always made us better together, and they remain core to our success. Similarly, our integrity continues to guide our decisions, always working to do the right thing, as a company and as individuals. With this in mind, racism or discrimination of any kind has not and will not be tolerated at Marriott Vacations Worldwide.
Ours is the business of bringing people together. We can honor all the men and women who’ve suffered the brutal effects of prejudice, starting with how we treat each other, our customers, and our communities. Recent events remind us how deeply the world needs these things, now maybe more than ever.
